The Emptiness

2010–ongoing — video - variable, HD b/w, silent

This ongoing series of silent videos continues the art historical tradition of memento mori by shooting recreations of scenes with a video camera on autofocus; the combination of distance, lenticular distortion and the camera's algorithm converge to prevent the camera from resolving the image-just when it begins to grasp the image, it 'doubts' itself and makes another attempt, only to doubt itself once more. The camera therefore behaves like a living thing, trying to come to terms with perception, mortality, and time.
