A loudspeaker set high on a wall on a Berlin street is connected and adjacent to an iPod. The iPod streams a constant loop of the first note of Richard Wagner's Gotterdammerung ('Twilight of the Gods') at a level that is only slightly audible above whatever ambient noise exists in the space. The speaker is of a style that evokes a limping, tragicomical modernity, an apt vessel for the juxtaposition of high romantic bombast and feeble wailing that can't help but be read as an unfortunate satire.
