A tongue-in-cheek interpretation of 'The 7 Characteristics of Zen Arts,' compiled by Shinichi Hisamatsu to define what makes a work of art 'zen' or not. The 7 characteristics--asymmetry, simplicity, lofty dryness, effortlessness, endless reverberation, unconventionality, quietude--are here embodied by a Buddha-themed kitsch object or toy, placing the viewer between the poles of the religious and the secular.
